Swingueira

Groups of young people from the outskirts of Fortaleza gather for a dance competition: the Swingueira. Inspired by the Bahia pagoda, teams form and, with a lot of swing and determination, seek to emerge victorious in the championships.

La Bohème

Giacomo Puccini's immortal opera, in a high budget feature-film version directed by Academy Award nominee Robert Dornhelm, stars opera's 'Golden Couple', Rolando Villazon and Anna Netrebko as the protagonists, Rodolfo and Mimi. The chemistry between them is electric, unrivalled in the theatre today. Russian soprano Anna Netrebko is not only beautiful but has a marvelous voice and technique; Mexican tenor Rolando Villazon, has a wonderful voice and an incredible charisma. The director not only wanted to remain steadfastly faithful to Puccini's design but also document two of the leading singers of the modern age rather than embarking on a 'trendy' contemporary re-creation.

TESA MAN

The film blurs the lines between reality and imagination, inviting viewers into an animistic experience where music performed by the band Tesa in a frozen Baltic landscape attempts to transform air, steam, ash and clay into something much more alive.

Movie Clip

In the open-air cinema-like scenery domestic rock bands get time for a short movie clip each, linked by an also short musical frame-play. Each of the altogether eighteen clips is a whole film etude playing with visual-lingual associations, film ideas, revealing the back-thought of the songs, and on the whole sometimes melancholicly, sometimes ironically the hopeless, sad picture of the era can be distinguished.

Liefling

The name of the film, Liefling, says it all. This is a love story that's been told by using evergreen Afrikaans songs from the 70's up to the latest hits of today. This musical is mainly about the life of Liefling Marais, a girl with a passion for life, who loves adventure. Liefling lives on a farm with her father Simon, mother Linda, grandfather Karel, brother Kobus and house keeper Katy. Simon is a professor at the university where we meet the 3 friends, Jan, Pieter and Gert in one of his classes. They also live in Hartbeespoort Jan lives with his grandmother Elsa Ferreira. The story starts during the December holidays. A spoilt rich girl, Melanie von Staden has one thing in mind and that is to reel in heart throb Jan Ferreira who has his eye set on Liefling. Fate unexpectedly brings lovers, friends and so called enemies together. This is a love story full of tears and laughter, song and dance.

CANDLE BEARER

Elly, a former artist, and Dej', a troubled musician, find themselves locked in a fragile and tense dynamic as they navigate, or rather fail to navigate, the weight of Dej's addiction. On a cold night in the studio, the band find themselves in a familiar, but ever so painful, situation. Dej's constant intoxication and Elly's ongoing denial push bandmates to leave, cause songs to be abruptly cut short by drunken mishaps, and lead to empty promises being tossed around amid incomprehensible antics. Elly must decide whether taking a step forward, no matter who she might leave behind or how difficult that might actually be, is the right thing to do - if there even is, or ever has been, a 'right' thing to do for her. The internal struggle unfurls as Elly's night becomes one that could either mark a new beginning, or bring everything to an end.
