The villagers one day are surprised by a strange phenomenon - a high embankment begins to form all over the area. Like in a mole pit, the shifting earth destroys everything around it. After the "cataclysm", new blocks of flats - all made of concrete slab - rise in place of the destroyed farms. Only the residents, transferred to new conditions, do not change their habits.

The teenager Victor lives in a city on the border of worlds among giant talking animals, aliens and magical creatures. Together with his classmates - the giant rabbit and the cat-girl Maruko - he sets off on exciting adventures.
How Did Esther Get on the Table?

A little girl fidgets by the desk at which her father is working. Suddenly she appears on top of the table, where she shrinks to only a few centimetres in size. The scene launches into a series of surrealistic objects of her environment. She is comforted with many situations that could conceivably happen to her in the future, and they prove to be more threatening than reassuring. At the end of film we find Esther restored to her normal self again, sitting on the lap of her father.

A parable about the human pursuit of the absolute, which often takes the form of a brutal rat race, inspired by Jacek Gaj's copperplate engraving Ladders. Its characters climb higher and higher, trying to reach a colorful mirage that appears from time to time. The goal will never be achieved, as successive "ladders" will only allow them to pass the next levels of their journey. What remains is the toil of Sisyphean wandering.
