Public Space explores occupied territory in the United States via the history of Seattle and its scenic parks system. Landscapes of past and present come crashing together to reveal a mass erasure of indigenous presence.

Tierra Caliente

TIERRA CALIENTE is the story of an ordinary family in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. As they go about their normal lives, they are caught in the crossfire between the Narco drug cartels and the military. The screenplay is an edited transcript of conversations from the family recorded over a period of two years. Actors play the members of the family to protect their identity, but we are able to hear the actual recordings throughout the film, to remind the audience that these people are real.

The plot is based on the creation of an illegal Marxist printing house in Chisinau in 1901, which reprinted the newspaper Iskra and other underground literature.

Darkest Russia

Ilda Barosky, a Jewess whose father was killed by Russian soldiers, is a violin student in love with Alexis Nazimoff, son of the Russian aristocracy. Alexis' father arranges a marriage of convenience between Alexis and Olga Karischeff, the daughter of the ambitious minister of police and attempts to shame Ilda at the betrothal celebration. Defiant, Ilda is whipped before the entire assembly. Alexis rushes in to rescue her and terminates his engagement to Olga. In retaliation, Karischeff sentences both Ilda and Alexis to ten years in Siberia as his last official act. The couple attempt to escape their Siberian captivity, are caught and face a firing squad until Count Nazimoff, who has assumed Karischeff's position as minister of police, arrives with a pardon. The couple return home, and the penitent count finally grants them his blessings.

The story takes place at the end of World War I and in the period that followed. It focuses on an intellectual family from Temesvár with three sons.

April 30, 1962. The Algerian War has been over for two months, but Charles de Gaulle negotiated with the FLN during the Évian Accords to continue nuclear testing in the Sahara Desert. Under the eyes of officials gathered in an observation post located 5 km from the blast site, the Taourirt fissures, releasing a radioactive cloud: this will be known as the Béryl accident.

Rose

Tells the story of the legendary Indonesian opera singer named Rose Pandanwangi who lived and worked amidst the dynamics and socio-political turmoil of Indonesia in the post-war period.
