The Royal Mounted Rides Again

In time-honored fashion, a couple of supporting players -- George Dolenz and Bill Kennedy -- found themselves elevated to starring roles in this minor Universal serial. They played Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers investigating the murder of a miner. The story, of course, was less important than speed and action, which directors Ray Taylor and Lewis D. Collins delivered in typical slap-dash Universal style. Starlet Daun Kennedy did not make much of an impression as the imperiled leading lady, and former star Robert Armstrong (of King Kong fame) was wasted in a subordinate role. Rondo Hatton, a non-actor whose grotesque appearance (caused by acromegaly, the so-called "Elephant Man" disease) was tastelessly exploited by Universal in the '40s, appeared as one of the outlaws.

Lampião's gang raids a farm just as the wedding of Antônio Saraiva and the Baroness's goddaughter is being prepared. In the shootout, Lampião's brother, Ezequiel, is killed, and in revenge, Lampião burns the Baroness alive and orders the bride to be beaten. Upon arriving at the farm, Antônio discovers everything and vows to follow the gang's footsteps to hell. The cangaceiros continue their atrocities, robbing, killing, and looting, until a priest places a curse on Lampião. The curse transforms into the avenging figure of Antônio, who acquires supernatural powers. He meets Lampião during Maria Bonita's birthday party, and a life-or-death duel ensues.

Jimmy Pearls, a directionless young drifter, kills Henry Logan's son and two other men after he found out that they murdered Jimmy's parents for their land. Trying to get away from Logan's vengeance, he goes to ground in the mountains and meets Winston Patrick Culler, an old trapper, who becomes his traveling companion and protector. Jimmy doesn't understand though why Culler is helping him...
