Chady and David work on cargo ships on Lake Geneva. They are both foreigners in Switzerland. On the oscillating waters of the lake, the young men, who are haunted by the memories of their home countries, share secrets, memories and the same feeling of being uprooted. A strange intimacy forms between the two men.

The Laundry Room

The key to the communal laundry room in the block of flats on the Rue de Genève 85 in Lausanne serves a much greater function than merely unlocking the door. This encounter between a symbol of typical Swiss mentality with a penchant for order and the tenants who have been housed here by the city’s social services department is not something to be taken for granted. Although the laundry room is normally located in the cellar, the tenants in this building share a tiny laundry room off the entrance hall because the cellar is reserved for prostitution. To maintain order and cleanliness, the landlord hires Claudina, a new “laundry woman”.

In Taxibotsing, Frans Bromet follows the battle waged by the established taxi world against Uber, a small online program that aims to eventually dominate the Dutch transport market. The battle is being fought on various levels. While the courts must determine whether the UberPop service is illegal (because drivers lack a license or do not pay taxes), the newcomer is an unpleasant reality for established taxi drivers. Livelihood theft, as well as resentment over colleagues going to work for the despised enemy, is turning the atmosphere on the streets grim.
