In winter, inside a shipyard, discipline and precision shape the daily routine of a skipper. Ambrogio Beccaria prepares his boat alongside his team, overseeing technical details and final adjustments. Beneath this surface of competence, traces of a past season, a defeat, and an accident quietly persist. As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, the atmosphere shifts. Concrete labor gives way to a more intimate, nocturnal dimension. Through fragments of memory, archival materials, and abstract imagery, the film drifts between wakefulness and dream, exploring the fragile boundary between control and vulnerability.

In the remote Norwegian town of Longyearbyen, just 1000 kilometres from the North Pole, politicians from around the world came to celebrate the opening of the world’s first global seed bank. After years of difficult negotiations and searching for the right spot, this was deemed to be the safest place on earth. Eventually, 4,5 million seed samples will be stored in this »Doomsday Vault« and ensure the continued existence of biodiversity. But is the dream of global food security achievable? By 2050 temperatures worldwide are expected to rise by at least 2 degrees. This will result in a 30 per cent drop in production of food crops. By this time global food demand will have doubled. How will we feed the world? In SEED WARRIORS we hear from the scientists behind this ambitious project and examine the reality of the fight against hunger.

Landscapes

Valentyna and her bed-ridden mother live on a small farm surrounded by the evergreen, lush flora of the rain forest. The works and thoughts of the poet and the artist, though, are filled with the landscapes of their old home, Ukraine. Memories of snow and birch trees, thistles and orchids, vegetable gardens and their animal residents come to life in Tamara’s poems and Valentyna’s drawings.
