Four Films about Music (Silent Jazz / Orchestra / Pause / Interior Music)

Many of my films evolve from a single shot, and quite often that shot is an immediate response to a situation unfolding in front of me. This is about the closest I get to improvising, a musical form I sometimes aspire to, but is difficult to attain as a filmmaker. That was how I shot the majority of films in this programme, using the convenience of the mobile phone in my pocket. I often sense immediately that something might be made from the situation I find myself in, but only after studying the shots on my computer do I discover the direction they might take. The third film Pause clearly involved some planning, but again, after the initial recording, I had to work with the fragments of sound and image to see where they might lead, in a lengthy process of trial and error. In Interior Music I am using the camera in direct response to music emanating from the Trinity Conservatoire in Greenwich. (EXiS — Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul, 2026)

To A Flame

A couple feels their relationship break down when one of them becomes devoted to a paranormal fire that demands to be fed.

Ripple

Her story embodies the resilient strength of ordinary women in the new era.Much like the Huaihe River after its throes of transformation, she brims with new vitality and flows onward quietly.

Shit Story

Sid Silver spirals from existential dread to the best way to battle mosquitoes, questions a breakup cliché that makes no sense, revisits the Telegram ban through a corporate analogy, and reflects on the demise of a man on his way to work, only to inevitably end up in a story involving literal shit.

Steps

A man who fled his country after the war broke out, living in physical safety but emotional exile. /haunted by trauma and the people he lost, he moves through his day with an invisible weight loss he can not name and guilt he can not face. The film follows his life while he remains suspended between what he can not face and what he can not feel.

Where My Heart Nests

Wang Yunchan, a 28-year-old woman who has drifted in Beijing for a decade, has long struggled to survive on the fringes of the city. She decides to go back to her hometown to find her childhood friend Liu Xiaolu. However, the transformed hometown, altered old classmates and a completely changed Liu Xiaolu make her realize for the first time that she is destined to live a migratory life.

The Content Trilogy

After her shift, a pharmacist heads back to her residence behind the hospital, documenting the ordinary moments of her walk with her brand new phone-unaware that something extraordinary is about to unfold. The footage unfolds into three stories: content-the walk back to the flats (content ทางกลับแฟลต), content-the walk back from the crematorium (content ทางกลับเมรุ), and cats sniffing each other's butts (แมวดมตูด).
